Metam sodium is the sodium salt of methyl dithiocarbamate. Meta Sodium is an organo sulphur compound used as a soil fumigant, pesticide, herbicide, and fungicide. Metam Sodium fumigation is used to suppress and control soil borne pests in flowers, food and fibre crops and reduces free-living nematodes. It can also inhibit mycorrhizal fungi in soil and reducing bacterial communities in soils.
When applied to soil, form a gas to control pests that live in the soil and can disrupt plant growth and crop production. As gases, however, fumigants move from the soil to the air at the application site and may move off-site at concentrations that produce adverse health effects in people from hours to days after application.
