Propylene Glycol Antifreeze
Propylene glycol antifreeze is a colourless, non-toxic hygroscopic heat transfer fluid for use as organic solvent and diluent in pharmaceuticals and many other cosmetics, and industrial applications. Propylene Glycol (C3H8O2) is a propanediol that exists as a clear, colorless and hygroscopic liquid, consisting of propane where the hydrogens at positions 1 and 2 are substituted by hydroxyl groups.
Chemtex Propylene Glycol is licensed under FSSAI (Category 99 - Substances added to food)
Industrial propylene glycol is used as a heat transfer medium, to control viscosity, to dissolve active agents or protect against corrosion and pressure burst. It is also used as raw material for the production of unsaturated polyester resins. By emulsifying active ingredients, which otherwise would not mix, propylene glycol helps to create a stable homogeneous fluid allowing for the intended final product, such as a face cream or shampoo to perform its function.
With its unique combination of properties propylene glycol supports many uses. It serves as a solvent; Connects and stabilizes insoluble fluids (emulsifier); Helps to bind and transport other substances (excipient); Holds and dissolves active ingredients equally in a medium; Attracts/holds water/moisture (hygroscopic); Reduces freezing point, increases boiling point; Chemically inert.
