Passivating Chemical

Passivation is a post-fabrication method of maximizing the inherent corrosion resistance of metals. It remains a critical step in maximizing the essential corrosion resistance of parts and components machined from stainless steels. It forms an invisible protective oxide film on the surface of passive stainless steel.

Contaminants such as dirt or iron particles from cutting tools, exposed sulphide ions of catalytic nature, reduce the effectiveness of the corrosion resistance and induces chances of corrosion/ rusting. Unless properly passivated, sulphides can act as initiation sites for corrosion on the surface of the fabricated product.

Passivating Chemicals are an alkaline blend of products designed to neutralize and passivate the metal surfaces after acid cleaning, pickling, chemical descaling, or derusting procedures. It inhibits the chances of flash rusting that happens when acidic and non-passivated metal surfaces get exposed to air (oxygen).

ASTM A380 and A967 set standards and quality-testing procedures for stainless steel passivation using nitric acid, citric acid, or by electrical means.

Handling Measures
and Precautions

Proper human safety products such as splash goggles, lab coat, vapour respirator, NIOSH approved gloves and boots should be worn while handling and applying chemicals. Splashes on the skin should be washed off with water immediately. In case of splashing into the eyes, flush them with fresh water and obtain medical attention. Should not be injected.

Storage

Should be stored in original containers away from heat, direct sunlight. Store in a cool dry place. Please refer label and SDS for details.

Shelf Life: 2 years if stored properly.
