Crude Tank Cleaner
Crude Tank Cleaning is a midstream application to ensure maximum recovery of crude hydrocarbons from the storage tank, which are otherwise prone to sludge depositions. These deposits are hard and difficult to remove mechanically, and even end up harming the tank metallurgy, increasing maintenance cost, time and labour. Chemically treating this sludge removes the tackiness and glutinousness while transferring the entire hydrocarbon to the diluent medium. The non-tacky sludge can then be directly taken out through any mechanical way which would neither harm the metallic structure nor the equipment.
Tank Cleaning Procedure
Sludge Removal
- Methods include shoveling or vacuuming, front-end loaders or robotics, power spray or hot oil washes
- Labor intensive and expensive with associated safety risks
- Moving the problem from one place to another
Hydrocarbon Recovery
- Must address crude oil recovery after removal process
- Mixing or diluting with cutter stock does not remove solids and water causing crude unit upsets
Traditional Disposal Methods
- Expensive and environmental restrictions mounting - land farm and incineration
- Mixing or diluting with cutter stock does not remove solids and water causing crude unit upsets
Key Features and Benefits
- Effective in crude oil / fuel oil storage tanks and various refinery processes.
- Sludge Breaker keeps storage tanks free from sludge and stable emulsions thus maintaining effective tank capacity.
- Sludge Breaker saves oil that would normally be discarded as sludge.
- Sludge Breaker eliminates plugging of suction lines and filters.
- It breaks water-in-oil emulsions by lowering the surface tension between the two phases.
- Neutralizes fuel acids.
- Reduces corrosion in fuel tanks and lines.
